“When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy.’ They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.” –John Lennon
What is a Bagua Box?
Many people enjoy using Feng Shui decorating principles within their homes. I can honestly say that I haven’t done this myself, but it has been fun to incorporate some of the principles with the creation of Bagua Boxes. The configuration of horizontal lines in the box are based on the Feng Shui Bagua Map at the bottom of this post. The symbol in the box pictured below represents Wealth and Abundance. If you flip it upside down and display it that way, the symbol represents Children and Creativity.
Wealth and Abundance
This shadow box is meant to invite prosperity as well as a sense of gratitude for the abundance you already have in your life. It’s not about money, but good fortune in any area of your life. If you are an artsy person like me, then to be prosperous means having a wellspring of creativity. And, if you are generous with your own abundance, it should attract even greater abundance. I made the box and hung it like you see below, to represent Children and Creativity, but realized that the flip side, Wealth and Abundance, was equally as important in developing my creativity.
This box was made with white marble tiles and shells. 95% of the shells were sitting on my favorite beach in Sanibel right there for the taking. The same box is pictured with a white background above. It’s seemed like a coral colored background would be more reminiscent of Sanibel Island. So, I painted it.
Children and Creativity
I made this shadow box hoping to generate
more creativity within myself. Children are
born creative. They demonstrate this through
play, games and uninhibited artwork. To reach
a creative state, I think that adults need to let
go of judgement and simply “go for it” using a
creative medium that feels good to them.
Children and Creativity represents your sense
of joy, openness, as well as the ability to complete
Do you remember a parent, grandparent or another elder telling you about the key to living a good life? Has it served you well?
Is there an area on this Bagua Map that you would like to focus some attention on at this time in your life? What do you want to be when you “grow up”? Who or what inspires you?
